Food Connects Us: Food As Culture and Comfort

Date: March 6, 2025 Time: 5:30 PM - 7:30 PM
https://secure.rec1.com/WA/Pullman-Washington-Parks-Recreation/catalog
Event Description Free Workshop series: Pullman School District #267, in partnership with Pullman Parks and Recreation, Community Action Center, and the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art WSU, is excited to announce a month-long celebration of National Nutrition Month throughout March 2025. This initiative is made possible by the USDA Healthy Meals Incentive grant, fostering a collaborative community effort to promote healthful eating habits and celebrate the ways food connects us all. National Nutrition Month®, established in 1973 by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, is an annual campaign that encourages individuals to make informed food choices and develop sustainable eating and physical activity habits. The 2025 theme, "Food Connects Us," highlights the powerful connections between food, culture, family, friends, and community. A collaborative community experience where participants can attend a series of free workshops featuring expert speakers from Washington State University (WSU), Pullman Regional Hospital, Disability Action Center Northwest, and more. The program includes food samples, dinner, and interactive children’s activities scheduled concurrently with the adult presentations. Week 1: March 6, 2025 – Week 1: Food as Culture and Comfort Shane Clark (Chef-Owner, Pow'Waw Foods LLC): Demonstration featuring the Pow'Waw Manoomin (Wild Rice) bowl with bison, smoked salmon, and traditional Native ingredients. Mat Morgan (Director, Marriott Hospitality Culinary Innovation Center): Cajun and Creole cuisine demonstration, featuring gumbo, biscuits, and mac and cheese. Kids Activities: Make a blank recipe book to add family recipes and make biscuits from scratch! All events are free and open to the public. Registration is open now at Pullman Parks and Recreation.
